How to Care for Your Implant After Surgery
Oral Hygiene
Follow your surgeon’s instructions for rinsing and brushing. Avoid directly disturbing the surgical site until you have been instructed that it is safe to do so.
Food & Diet
Begin with soft, cool or lukewarm foods and avoid hard, crunchy, spicy, or very hot foods during the initial healing period.
Swelling & Discomfort
Some swelling and discomfort are normal. Use cold compresses during the initial period and take medications as directed by your surgical team.
Activity
Rest after surgery and follow your surgeon’s instructions regarding exercise and other strenuous activities.
Smoking & Tobacco
Avoid smoking and tobacco products during healing, as they can interfere with the recovery process and may increase the risk of complications.
Dental Appliances
Do not wear dentures, partial dentures, or other oral appliances over the surgical area unless your surgeon has specifically cleared you to do so.
The current AZ Center instructions specifically emphasize avoiding rinsing on the procedure day, beginning gentle saltwater rinses afterward, careful brushing, soft foods, cold compresses, avoiding tobacco, and contacting the office if implant hardware becomes loose.
